Fisherman’s Wharf is a historically significant neighborhood in San Francisco, known for its deep-rooted maritime heritage and long-standing fishing industry. However, over the years, the area has experienced a gradual erosion of its authentic identity, as tourism and commercial developments have overshadowed its original character. This project seeks to reconnect the community with its historical and cultural foundations by establishing an outdoor fish market that celebrates the region’s fishing traditions. At the heart of the design is a distinctive canopy, which serves as both a visual landmark and a functional gathering space. The structure will not only draw visitors to the market but also enhance public access to the waterfront—an area that remains challenging to reach, apart from the sandy beaches. By creating a dynamic and engaging environment, this intervention encourages interaction between local fishermen, residents, and visitors, fostering a renewed appreciation for the working waterfront and the fresh seafood industry that has long defined Fisherman’s Wharf.
